FAQs

Below are some of our most frequently asked questions. If your question isn't answered here please contact us and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.

1. How much notice should I give for booking my removal?

Moving abroad can be a complex procedure and there are a lot of factors to consider when planning your relocation. You should notify us as soon as you know the date you need to be at your new destination and we will advise you on what you will need to do to suit your time limitations and budget. It’s never too early to get in touch and even though we can accommodate short notice projects, we ideally require at least 12 weeks’ notice.

2. How much will my move cost?

The cost depends on the volume of goods you want to ship and the distance travelled. Book a quote with us today and we will estimate the volume of your effects during our free survey. Our advisors are happy to discuss your individual needs, answer your questions and offer advice on how to manage your relocation costs.

3. How will my items be transported?

Your goods can be shipped by air, sea or road, depending on what your overall requirements and time constraints are. European moves for example, can be transported by road but more distant locations are serviced by sea or air, depending on your time restrictions and budget.

4. Will my belongings be insured?

We do everything we can to make sure that your belongings are well protected during transit. However, if you’d like absolute peace of mind, we offer a range of comprehensive insurance options to make sure your items are fully covered from the moment they leave you to when they’re delivered.

5. Are goods I have packed myself insured?

Goods you have packed yourself will be insured for damage caused by fire and stranding, sinking, collision or overturning of the vessel or transportation vehicle. Missing items are covered only if an itemised and valued list of contents has been supplied to us in advance. For your absolute peace of mind and comprehensive cover we suggest letting us pack your items using our export packing methods, minimising the likelihood of damage and allowing you to benefit from increased insurance cover and greater protection for your effects.

6. How do I prepare for moving day?

Depending on the type of package you choose, you might prefer to pack any items you wish yourself and have it ready for loading. Our crews will arrive at the agreed time and get to work wrapping your furniture and packing your items. We advise that refrigerators are emptied on the previous day and left open in order to dry out.

7. Can I take my car with me?

Yes, your car can be transported though we suggest checking car import regulations at your destination, before going ahead, as there might be customs fees to pay. Your move manager will be able to advise you accordingly.

8. Can you transport my pet?

Yes, you can be assured that your beloved pet will be transported with care and in comfort by our pet transport team. We suggest speaking with your veterinarian in order to provide them with the appropriate documentation ahead of travelling and in order familiarise yourself with the pet import regulations at your destination.

9. How long will my belongings take to arrive?

Transit times depend on destination, mode of transport and your destination’s customs processes. For more information see our destination pages.

11. Will my shipment be opened before it arrives at my house?

The majority of individual containers are delivered unopened. In some countries like Australia however, containers are unloaded for quarantine inspection to ensure no environmental hazards are accidentally introduced. You can rest assured that the process is supervised by our trusted destination partners and is only performed out of absolute necessity. We take every possible step to ensure your items are cared for, however, customs officials reserve the right to inspect goods anywhere in the world and we must abide by the laws of each destination country.

12. Will I have to be present when my shipment arrives at Customs?

Most countries require you to be present during customs clearance. Depending on where you’re moving to your move manager will be able to advise you accordingly.

13. Are there any items I shouldn’t take with me?

Food is generally not permitted in most destinations and in Australia for example, certain refrigerator and air conditioning models containing CFCs are prohibited for environmental reasons. For more information visit our destination pages for a complete list of guidelines, or consult your move manager.
